HealthPass New York Expands Health Insurance Options for Small Businesses

Healthpass NY recently announced that it will be expanding health insurance options for small businesses. Already a popular option for NY small business health insurance, Health Pass is adding a new carrier to their mix starting in September 2019. Current HealthPass NY carriers include Oxford, HealthFirst and Oscar. Starting in September 2019 they will also be offering EmblemHealth.

What is Healthpass NY

A private health insurance exchange since 1999, Health Pass provides companies in NYC, Long Island, and downstate New York affordable and accessible coverage. Employees have the ability to choose healthcare plans that fits their needs and budget from an ever-growing range of choices. It allows employees to pick from a wide range of insurance carriers, provider networks, metal levels, and plan types.

Administration is easy and streamlined. There’s one group set-up form, and one consolidated employee enrollment form. Group’s receive one invoice and write one check each month for coverage. There is online access for both group benefit administrators as well as employees to manage their plans. Healthpass NY will also administer COBRA and offer a Section 125 POP kit for pre-tax contributions at no additional cost to the employer.

Healthpass for your business

Healthpass is available to NY companies with 1-100 full-time equivalent employees. Companies must be located in the five boroughs of NYC, Long Island, Westchester, Rockland, Orange, Putman, Dutchess, Ulster or Sullivan counties to be eligible.

Employers can set eligibility requirements, waiting periods and contribution levels within the Affordable Care Act (ACA) guidelines. These simple eligibility standards make health insurance accessible to even more employers than in a traditional direct to carrier relationship.

While you can surely go direct to the carriers instead of going thru Health Pass, there is no other way to offer all of these health insurance carriers, networks, and ancillary benefits under one roof. Individual carriers will not allow more than 3 plans side by side on average. Some don’t even offer dental options for employees.

By having the HealthPass options of over 30 medical plans, additional ancillary options with no participation requirements as well as consolidated application and administration processes, there is no more robust offering you can present to your small business employees.

Healthpass offers a loose 75% participation requirement. This means 75% of your full-time employees must either enroll or waive with any other health insurance. This is starkly different than most carriers that require valid waivers only for spouse, parental, Medicare or Medicaid only.
